SPECIMEN safety data sheet: Used cooking oil (UCO)
THIS IS A SPECIMEN. IT IS NOT A SAFETY DATA SHEET.
It is published as a worked example, to show which information belongs in which of the sixteen sections required by Regulation (EU) 2020/878. It contains no batch data, no supplier data and no customer data, and it must never be supplied, presented or relied upon as a real safety data sheet.
Sustainable Commodities 3 B.V. is a broker. It does not manufacture, import or supply this product, and it is not a supplier within the meaning of Article 3(32) of REACH. Only the actual supplier may issue a safety data sheet, and only that document describes the material you are buying. Ask your supplier for it.

Sections 1 and 14 cause the most arguments in practice: section 1 has to name the party that places the material on the market, and section 14 governs whether the cargo may travel as booked. We are a broker, not the supplier, so the sheet for your material has to come from the party you are buying from.

1.Identification of the substance/mixture and of the company/undertaking
Product: Collected and filtered vegetable frying oil of food origin, traded as a feedstock for biodiesel, HVO and SAF production.
Identified use: Feedstock for biofuel production. Not for food or feed use.

2.Hazards identification
Not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 in the typical traded condition. This is a general statement about the substance type, not a classification of any batch.
Generally not classified as hazardous under CLP in the traded condition.
Physical hazards to note in handling: slip hazard from spillage; hot material causes thermal burns; oil-soaked rags can self-heat and ignite.
3.Composition/information on ingredients
Mixture of triglycerides, free fatty acids, mono- and diglycerides, with moisture, food particulates and polymerised material from frying.
Free fatty acid content varies widely by collection route and is the main commercial parameter. See the analysis for the actual batch.

7.Handling and storage
Store in closed tanks or IBCs, away from ignition sources and oxidising agents.
Heated storage may be required in cold conditions. Avoid prolonged heating, which accelerates oxidation and raises free fatty acid.
Oil-soaked textiles must be stored in closed metal containers or wetted before disposal because of the risk of spontaneous heating.

9.Physical and chemical properties
Appearance: viscous liquid, yellow to dark brown. Odour: characteristic, cooked.
Typical density around 900 to 930 kg/m3 at 15 C. Not water soluble.
Flash point generally above 200 C. Batch values must come from the analysis.

Not normally classified as dangerous goods for transport in the traded condition. Confirm against the actual consignment and the carrier's requirements.
15.Regulatory information
Subject to Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009 where of animal origin or mixed. Sustainability claims fall under Directive (EU) 2018/2001 as amended and the relevant voluntary scheme.

What to do with this
